Virginia-based specialist nutrition company PBM Products has inked a deal with Denmark’s Arla Foods and ALK-Abello which gives the US company the global rights to Profylac(R), a hypoallergenic infant formula.

The whey-based product is marketed as easy-to-digest and formulated for infants with severe food allergies, including infants who are allergic to cow’s milk

Launched in 1990, Profylac is one of the world’s most documented, extensively hydrolyzed infant formulas, PBM said. Clinical studies have confirmed the product’s suitability for babies with cow’s milk and soy allergy – providing essential nutrition from birth.

PBM’s hypoallergenic formula will be manufactured by PBM Nutritionals in the only ISO 9001:2000-certified, infant formula-manufacturing facility in the US, the company said. Located in northwestern Vermont, the facility has been manufacturing infant formulas for more than 20 years.

Arla Foods Ingredients has patented Profylac in 19 countries worldwide.
