Australian grocery retailer Foodland Associated Limited today (Wednesday) announced rise in sales from ongoing operations in its third quarter ended 1 May to A$1.591bn (US$2.01bn), compared with $1.457bn in the same period a year ago.

In the year to date sales at Foodland, which is subject to a takeover offer from grocery wholesaler Metcash, were $4.788bn, compared with $4.556bn a year ago.
The result was underpinned by strong performances by the group’s New Zealand divisions, which produced a sales increase for the quarter of 5.1% expressed in local currency terms, the company said. The Australian Franchise & Supply division again achieved very strong quarterly growth, recording an increase in sales of 9.9%.
