A new Market and Media Institute survey for Norway’s Food Safety Authority reveals that the number one consumer food fear was environmental toxins.

Fully 46% of those surveyed said they were “quite” or “very” worried about environmental toxins, such as dioxins and PCB which have been mentioned in connection with fatty fish.
A similarly pervasive fear exists for hormones and other growth activators, with 43% listing this as a concern. The other preoccupation for Norwegian consumers was sugar consumption, with 39% saying they were worried about overly high sugar intake.
The FSA scored top marks, with 86% expressing high confidence in the information they provide, and 80% also said they wanted more public information about food.
Norway has recently had a scare involving cadmium in animal feed. The substance is believed to have entered the food chain via zinc sulphate from China and has resulted in a temporary ban on the sale of beef and pork livers and kidneys.
