Blackpool-based confectionery company Tangerine has purchased the confectionery business of Burton’s Foods for an undisclosed sum, creating the UK’s largest independent sugar confectionery group, with an annual turnover of between GBP40m (US$75.46m) and GBP60m.
Tangerine chairman Steven Joseph said: “This is fantastic news for Tangerine, and confirms our position as the leading supplier of sugar confectionery. The acquisition of the confectionery division of Burton’s Foods is a great opportunity for Tangerine. The products and expertise are an excellent fit with our business and development plans.”
This is the company’s second acquisition of the year, having acquired Toms UK, the UK operation of Toms of Denmark, in January.
The acquisition includes Burton’s Blackpool factory, significantly increasing Tangerine’s gum and jelly production capabilities. It brings brands such as liquorice allsorts and dolly mixtures into Tangerine’s portfolio, which includes the Mojo chews and Princess Marshmallows brands, as well as a wide range of own-label products for retailers.
