The EU Council of Ministers has reached a “political agreement” to accept amendments to food labelling regulations approved by the European Parliament that would compel manufacturers of vitamin and mineral-enriched foods to print recommended daily intakes on labels along with warnings not to exceed the allowance.

Thierry Habotte, communications manager for the EU Confederation of Food and Drink Industries, said however that there was still “a very long way to go” before the legislation came into force and there would be active lobbying later in the year when the measure came up for further discussion in the council and a second reading in the parliament.
