Biscuit-maker Poult has acquired Brittany-based family firm Panier Tanguy to become France’s second biggest biscuit producer in the sector behind Danone’s LU and the leading manufacturer of retailers’ own brands.
The acquisition will increase the number of Poult’s production plants from two to four and raise its annual biscuits output from 30,000 tonnes to 52,000 tonnes.
The new group – employing 800 staff and generating an annual turnover of €125m (US$153m) will offer a broad range of products including filled and coated biscuits and wafer, butter and palm leaf cookies.
In 2004, Poult invested €4.6m in increasing capacity at its plant in Montauban, near Toulouse and opening a new production line for jam-filled biscuits.
