Banks Hoggins O’Shea/FCB has found it impossible to live up to the success of the “Ambassador” campaign that was the brainchild of its predecessor on the account. That advert saw an unidentified ambassador offering Ferrero Rocher chocolates to guests at a reception. It became one of the most familiar adverts of all time but was dropped in 1999 when Ferrero decided it was time for a more modern slant.

When it took over the account, Banks Hoggins O’Shea/FCB came up with a new advertisement in which a dinner party hostess only reluctantly shares around the Ferrero Rochers bought for the occasion. The campaign has not had anything like the impact of its predecessor, and the two parties have partied company after just 30 months.

It is unclear whether the £5m (US$7.3m) account will be put out to tender or offered to another agency already working on another Ferrero account.
