Five factories owned by CP Foods, including the latest factory in the northeastern province of Nakorn Ratchasrima, are approved by Japan and the EU as cooked chicken suppliers, President and Chief Executive Adirek Sripratak said, according to the Dow Jones news agency.

Japan and the EU are the two largest importers of cooked chicken from Thailand. CP Foods’ total production capacity of cooked chicken now stands at 120,000 tonnes compared with 60,000 tonnes before the latest approval, Adirek said.

“After the approval, CP Foods will gain 30%-40% of the market share of Thailand’s cooked chicken exports…The company’s exports in 2005 will grow as planed to total around 90,000 tons, up 100% from last year,” he said.

Japan and the EU banned chicken imports from Thailand after a bird flu outbreak was confirmed in January 2004. They later approved imports of cooked Thai chicken from processing plants that meet their standards.
