Production capacity at the company’s Louisiana-based Aquaponics operations will be increased to 3m pounds of tilapia a year. The expansion includes the installation of 26 aquaculture tanks. An additional 50 greenhouses will also be installed in order to boost production of organic Boston and butter lettuce by 5m heads each year.
The operation utilises unique ecologically efficient technology which conserves and re-cycles water and nutrients, the company said.
The board also approved expansion of Premier Organic Farms into Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and North Carolina as well as additional locations in Louisiana.
