Biscuit maker Ginbis may set up a plant to make Japanese biscuits in Malaysia, but the decision will depend on how well the product sells.

Ginbis Auntie Be Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between Japanese biscuit maker Ginbis Co Ltd and its China unit Ginbis Four Seas Food (Shantou) Co Ltd, is looking for an initial 10% share of the 235m ringgit (US$61.8m) Malaysian biscuit market with the launch of its Ginbis’ Party Animals and Ginza biscuits, chairman Datuk Ng Peng Hay said, according to a report in the Business Times.

It has appointed Texchem Consumers Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of main board-listed Texchem Resources Bhd, as the distributor of the biscuits in Malaysia and Brunei for the next three years.

Brian Tan Guan Hooi, CEO of Texchem Consumers Malaysia said that to start the company will distribute the Party Animals and Ginza biscuits in Peninsular Malaysia.

“In six months, the products should be ready for sale all over the country and Brunei,” he said.
