According to a “New Food Review” by market research group Datamonitor, Tesco’s introduction of tomatoes with high levels of the antioxidant lycopene, is a casing example of conveniently incorporated health benefits.


Meanwhile, the organic market is growing strongly, with PBM Products launching the first organic infant formula containing the lipids DHA and ARA, for distribution in Wal-Mart stores in the US. These nutrients are found naturally in mother’s milk and “proven to aid in infant brain and eye development”.


Another healthy variation of a popular food is Flora’s Bija Omega Truffles, with the organic chocolate set for launch in the US, fortified essential fatty acids omega-3 and 6.
 
In Europe, Datamonitor has noted a savoury snack, called Redline Energy Wurst, that contains ginseng, guarana, and taurine, without requiring refrigeration, launched by OVI.
 
Steaming is a trendy new preparation method in the US for frozen and refrigerated foods, and President’s Choice Blue Menu Easy Steam Refrigerated Entrees consist of microwavable refrigerated ready meals which use steam as their primary cooking method, Datamonitor noted.
 
In addition, Confitures Artisanales des Monts d’Arree has released a hibiscus jam in France, which won the prize for the best novelty product in Brittany for 2006 by the Produit en Bretagne Association.
