Until now, there were contradictions with a 1990 regulation on poultry-meat production that threatened to cause legal confusion, but these have been ironed out by the EU Council of Ministers.


Other changes include that small poultry producers, processing under 10,000 birds annually, could be exempted from these standards by member states. There was also a technical change legally defining carcasses, clarifying that giblets can be sold with a bird, and new rules on labelling ‘sell by dates’.
