The Japanese Government lifted a two-year-ban on US beef that had been imposed due to fears of mad cow disease in January, only to swiftly reinstate trade restrictions after a prohibited cut of meat was found in a shipment of veal from the US.
According to a Kyodo News report, Kawasaki’s comments were made after a cabinet meeting where the issue was supposedly discussed.
