UK processed onion supplier Veridian has said it expects its sales to be boosted by double-digit growth in demand for ready-to-cook prepared foods.

The company, a subsidiary of Lincolnshire-based Lingarden, expanded its factory by 50% last year to meet increased demand for whole peeled, sliced, diced and puréed onions, and is now drawing up proposals for further growth.

“Over the past five years socio-economic changes in household structures have fuelled the market for prepared foods,” said Veridian’s commercial manager, Sarah Hill.

“We currently utilise around 700 tonnes of pre-packed and processed onions on site per week and our investment plans anticipate a lot more growth on the processing side,” she added.
