Reports out of the Netherlands suggest that it is likely that prosecutors will conclude their case against former Royal Ahold executives today (3 April).

A number of ex-executives at the retailer have been charged over their alleged role in an accounting scandal three years ago. It is expected that prosecutors will seek jail sentences for any found guilty.

Among those charges are former chief financial officer Michael Meurs, who has been accused of falsifying documents and misleading Ahold accountants. Cees van der Hoeven, former chief executive, Jan Andreae, a former executive board member, and Roland Fahlin, former supervisory board member, are on trial for similar charges.
