Finsbury Food Group, manufacturers of cakes, low fat slices and speciality organic and gluten free breads, said today (19 January) that Christmas trading was in line with expectations.

The trading update, released in advance of Finsbury’s interim results to be published in March, said that all of the group’s businesses, including Memory Lane Cakes as well as in the California Cake Company, Campbell’s Cake Company and United Central Bakeries, performed well during this key seasonal period. Nicholas & Harris, which has its seasonal trading peak at Easter, has secured “significant new business”, the statement added.

“We are delighted by the progress made so far in integrating our recent Scottish acquisitions into the Group and in the enhanced range of market-leading product expertise we can offer customers as a result.  We continue to pursue our stated objective to be ‘best at what we do’ across all five Group companies,” said chief executive Dave Brooks.

“The cake market remains competitive but with our emphasis on profitable growth, cost control and margin improvement we remain confident of delivering our plans,” he concluded.
