The spice and flavouring producer McCormick & Company has announced that it will close its manufacturing plant in Salinas, California and switch production to its other North American manufacturing facilities by the end of this year.

The move is part of the company’s ongoing restructuring plan, which aims to simplify operations and improve margins.
The company said the closure would result in 400 job losses at Salinas, adding that it was committed to providing assistance to employees, including severance, outplacement and potential re-assignment to other McCormick operations.
McCormick further announced that it is to close its condiment manufacturing facility in Hunt Valley, Maryland, with production being transferred to its other condiment plant in South Bend, Indiana. That transfer is also expected to be completed by the end of 2006, and McCormick said it expects to transfer employees from the Hunt Valley plant to other McCormick facilities in Maryland.
