France’s retail and distribution trade federation, the FCD, has noted a slowdown in the decline of poultry sales in supermarkets last week.

The federation points to a fall of 15% on pre-bird flu crisis levels compared to the 25% to 30% slump in the two preceding weeks.

The FCD largely attributes what it calls a “real recovery in poultry consumption” to promotional campaigns initiated by a number of supermarket chains.

It goes on to highlight a decrease in sales of chicken pieces but an upturn in whole chickens many of which are sold on special offer. The FCD has not noted any significant transfer of consumption to other meats.
