On July 26, Burger King Corporation’s world headquarters facility in Miami was the site of a hemispheric battle pitting crew against crew from different regions of the BURGER KING® system in the Fourth Annual Global Operations (Ops) Bowl. After all was said and done, Burger King United States edged the team from the Dominican Republic in sudden death to claim this year’s crown.

“It was a spirited competition with lots of encouragement and cheering from employees of all regions,” said Roy Blauer, president, US Company Restaurants, Burger King Corporation. “I’m proud that the team comprised of crew members from restaurants in Atlanta and Tampa prevailed over some very impressive competition from Latin America and other US teams.”

Teams comprised of crew members representing Costa Rica, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, New York, Georgia, and Florida competed in a “best of the best” tournament that rewarded the competitors for their knowledge of the Burger King Corporation Operations Manual, the bible of BURGER KING® restaurants. The winning team was comprised of Denise Anderson, Milsa Coss, Lilly Hambrick, Regina Miller, Fred Stevens, Amirah Yancy, and Tracy Young.

The game show-style tournament asked restaurant crews and managers a variety of restaurant operational questions. Points were awarded to teams for the correct answer. The US victory ended the three-year reign of winning teams from Latin America. The Ops Bowl originated four years ago in the Latin American Region as a skill building exercise.
