A new retail takeaway concept offers a ‘real’ curry that just needs reheating at home.

The Authentic Food Company, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of high quality, handmade ethnic food for the catering sector, has joined forces with leading supermarket chain United Norwest Co-op to offer customers a professionally made range of Indian, Chinese and Mexican ‘food to go.’

This means that customers to United Norwest Co-op stores looking for a fast, convenient, top quality, custom-made meal, can now take their pick from an extensive range of tasty starters and main courses to make up a dish of their choice which can be taken home and reheated.

The selection available at the stores, rivals any found at takeaways or restaurants in both quality and price and offers customers the convenience of being able to combine a shopping trip with choosing a ready-made meal with the minimum of fuss.

Lak Basran, managing director of the Authentic Food Company, says of the new concept: “We live in a society where many people don’t have the time or inclination to cook. But these same people demand high quality service and goods and are not prepared to accept anything less.”

“What we have produced are a range of dishes that reflect the quality you would expect to receive in a restaurant, but at a competitive price and with the convenience of a takeaway.”

“We have an excellent working relationship with United Norwest Co-op and this is evident by the success of the ‘food to go’ venture. The range has proved to be such a hit, we are continually looking at opportunities to extend it to cover even more stores.”

An array of dishes are currently available, ranging from the ever popular chicken tikka masala to more exotic and spicy choices. The range is in almost 40 stores stretching from Stoke-on-Trent to Glossop and Widnes.

A spokesman from United Norwest Co-op confirmed the success of its new offering: “The range has proved extremely popular. It’s a high quality product that can compete with professional dedicated takeaway outlets. Wherever space permits, we are introducing this range into our stores as part of a major redevelopment programme across our convenience store estate.”

The Authentic Food Company has recently changed its name from Authentic Indian Foods and undergone a major rebranding exercise to reflect an expanded product range which features dishes from around the world.
