Leading global starch supplier National Starch has announced plans to integrate and streamline continental European services from 1 July by re-locating its food starch expertise from Neustadt (Germany) and Villefranche (France) to a single site in Hamburg, North Germany.
The company’s state-of-the-art pilot plant facilities, customer and technical services, laboratories and market development facilities will all be housed in an expanded Hamburg plant. Some technical service facilities will remain in the company’s Villefranche site in France. Investment in the Hamburg operation has enabled key services to customers to be further integrated and will strengthen National Starch’s position as a leading supplier. The move marks the final stage in a programme designed to anticipate customer demand and provide even faster response times.
“The pace of new product development is quickening all the time,” comments Peter Hendrikx, Market Development Manager at National Starch. “As a supplier at the forefront of new trends in the industry, we are confident we have in place the people and processes to continue to exceed customers’ demands. Having everyone together will be a great advantage and a benefit to our customers.”
A key factor in the decision to expand the Hamburg facilities lies in the success of National Starch’s unique Novation series of functional native starches and the need to accommodate increased demand. Launched in 1996, the Novation range has revolutionised the food manufacturing industry, allowing the functionality of a traditional modified starch to be captured for the first time in a functional native starch. The result is a product range which can be declared simply as ‘starch’ on the ingredients label. “Demand for Novation is growing,” says Hendrikx, “particularly as various food scares have made consumers more aware of labelling. People are looking for ingredients they recognise and ‘starch’ is one of them.”
National Starch offers a complete range of speciality food starches including native, modified, functional native and a full selection of non-GM and identity preserved starches.
