Malaysia has reportedly agreed to lift its import ban on Australian beef next month after a dispute over slaughtering practices.

The dispute, which stopped shipments worth up to AUS$30m, ended when an Islamic advisory body determined that slaughter practices in Australia met religious requirements, reported the Australian Associated Press (AAP).

According to reports, Malaysia’s National Fatwa Council confirmed that the Australian system of stunning animals is in line with halal requirements, whereas Islamic authorities had initially believed methods in the country were violating Islam’s rules on humane slaughter.
