New Zealand dairy processor Fonterra has applied for regulatory clearance to acquire full control of Grated Cheese Co, in which it already holds a 50% stake.

GCC produces grated, shredded and diced cheeses under the Greenfields brand from raw material supplied by Fonterra. It exports products to Australia, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East, reported Reuters.
Reporting on the application, the Commerce Commission said: “In considering the application, the commission’s role is to determine whether the acquisition has the effect of substantially lessening competition in a market.”
