Japanese consumer packaged goods group Kao Corp. said this week it is nearing the launch of a bottled green tea that can increase fat loss.

‘Healthya Green Tea’, a breakthough for Kao in that it is its first beverage product, will be sold in 350ml bottles, retailing at ¥180 (US$1.5). The company is forecasting sales worth in excess of ¥10bn in the product’s first year.

It will be launched on 26 May at convenience stores in Tokyo and outlying areas, and then rolled out nationwide.

The new product contains tea catechin. This is a tanning that helps burn up human body fat three to four times faster that in regular green tea, reports Jiji Press. Kao claims that tests showed that the consumption of one bottler per day over a three-month period reduced levels of body fat in test participants by around 10%.
