The controversial food labelling proposals may well reach an insurmountable hurdle today (21 November), when the Australian government votes on whether it will support them. Western Australia and Queensland have already rejected the plans.

Warren Truss, Australian Agriculture Minister, revealed that the new labels are proving unpopular in the government because the high costs for their implementation will put produce for export at a disadvantage with competitions from elsewhere ho do not similarly label their produce.

The meeting between the New Zealand and Australian health ministers is due to take place this Friday (24 November).
