The prospects for Thai produce in the international arena were boosted this week with news that the export market for homegrown spices is expected to reach US$38m for 2000.

The new report, released by the Thai Farmer’s Bank Research Centre, showed that during the course of this year the export market increased 86.7% on 1999, and the domestic market for 2000 is now valued at US$89m.

The centre stressed that the Thai share of the international spice market is still relatively small, however, and urged exporters to explore further opportunities for growth to benefit local growers and producers.
