A crackdown on shrimp poachers that was due to begin on 15 December has been delayed until the 23 of this month, said sources from the Pakistani fisheries department.

Operating in protected areas in mangrove forests, the poachers should have been tackled before but officials at the Karachi Fisheries Harbour Authority (KFHA) argue that while the entire background organisation for a crackdown has been arranged, they cannot begin the operation until after the Eid holidays.

Sources revealed however, that action was postponed because the logistics had still not been organised.
