Last September, StarLink kernels were found in edible corn in the United States despite its classification as inedible for human use. The biotech corn is only allowed for use in livestock feed.


The KFDA said that US corn products stopped at customs amounted to 55,125 tons. In 2000, 55,627 tons out of 7.4 million tons of total agricultural imports failed to pass customs.


The Korea Corn Processing Industry Association (KCPIA) said last week it would file a damage claim against Aventis, the StarLink developer.
