Unilever is to invest behind its frozen food business in the US with a US$2m project at a manufacturing facility in Kentucky.

The consumer goods giant is expanding its freezer storage at the plant in Owensboro, as part of a drive to support its range of Bertolli frozen Italian ready meals.


Some 20 to 40 jobs will be added to the 470-strong workforce, Unilever supply leader Paul Altimier told just-food today (13 December).


“The growth of our frozen food business has been impressive,” Altimier said. “It’s down to the convenience and the quality of the product.”


The investment comes amid a raft of changes across Unilever’s business in the US.

Last month, Unilever began developing two distribution centres, one in Florida and the other in Dallas.
