For the seventh consecutive year, the Dutch confectionary and salty snacks market revealed healthy growth in 2000, according to new figures published by Studiecentrum Snacks en Zoetwaren (SSZ). The research agency SSZ attributed the growth to a number of factors, including new and upgraded products, the impact of special events, population growth and even meteorological conditions.


Consumption of biscuits and baked goods per capita in The Netherlands is probably the highest in the world, however the Dutch have yet to pursue chocolate with the same vigour as continental counterparts Switzerland and Belgium.
