US supermarket operator Kroger has agreed to buy 17 supermarkets and two plots of land from fellow retailer Albertson’s for an undisclosed sum. The store are in the Houston area, apart from one in Sulphur, Louisiana. All 17 stores have pharmacies. They will be integrated into Kroger’s Southwest division, which operates 190 stores in Texas and Louisiana.

It is hoped that the change of ownership will not be bad news for too many Albertson’s employees. Kroger officials will be meeting with them soon to discuss career opportunities under the new management.
