Long Phung Co has revealed plans this Monday to build a US$500,000 pork pie bakery in Vietnam that meets international hygiene standards. A grant of US$200,000 has also been given by the Canadian government to fund the market research for the project and help Long Phung find partners in other countries.
Based in Canada, the company processing sausages and ham for over 14 years in Montreal and Houston, Texas, before looking to expand. During 1997-9, Long Phung attempted to find a local partner for the operation, which is aims to attract domestic consumers, but “what we learned about Vietnamese companies persuaded us it would be better to go it alone.”
Long Phung will soon begin looking for wholesale deals with Asian companies, particularly in Japan and Singapore.
Canada’s Institute Technology Agro-Alimentaire is helping the company develop its methods to produce good pork pies.
