The US-based group, maker of brands including Rice Dream and the Linda McCartney meat-free range, has offloaded a business acquired when it bought Haldane Foods last year.

Under the deal, Hain Celestial’s dry-mix production site at Barrow goes to Symington’s, which was the subject of a GBP40m (US$83m) management buy-out in September.

David Arrow, managing director of Hain Celestial UK, said the deal signalled the end of the integration of the Haldane operations into the business.

“The dry-mix business didn’t really fit into our portfolio. There were myriad products with it and there were no real synergies with our business,” Arrow told just-food today (13 November).

Last week, Hain Celestial said it would double the production staff at one of its Fakenham site in the UK after the successful relaunch of the Linda McCartney range.

Arrow said the expansion was a sign of the company’s “confidence” in the brand. “We are looking forward with some confidence. We are seeing the brand grow again after a number of years of decline and we believe we can sustain those volumes.”

Hain Celestial is looking to expand into Europe and Arrow said the company “remains acquisitive”. He said there are “a number of businesses” Hain is looking at but declined to name those targets.
