The US food giant has recalled Totino’s and Jeno’s pizzas with pepperoni toppings following investigations from federal and state health officials.
General Mills said the pepperoni topping on the pizzas could be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.
The health authorities were studying a spate of E. coli-related illnesses across ten US states. Around half of the 21 people that became ill were sent to hospital. Nine of the 21 had eaten Totino’s or Jeno’s pizza with pepperoni topping.
General Mills said the investigation is “ongoing” and that the company “continues to cooperate fully with all involved state and federal authorities”.
