Nevertheless, the Swiss food giant told just-food that it is “on the look-out” for acquisitions in Eastern Europe, a region where it is enjoying “stellar results”.

Nestlé is one of three names linked to Ruza which, according to reports in Russia, has been put up for sale. Kraft Foods and Nordic food firm Fazer Group are the two other names in the frame for Ruza, which generates annual sales of some US$64m.

“We never comment on rumours,” a Nestlé spokesman told just-food from the Swiss town of Vevey. “But, we are always on the look-out for tack-on acquisitions and take a very in-depth look at the possibilities. We believe there is room for growth in Eastern Europe and Russia.”

Officials at Ruza, Kraft and Fazer could not be reached for comment as just-food went to press.
