Meat and food products group Hormel is suing its competitor Campbell Soup Company over the latter’s claim that its Chunky soups contain as much meet as stews.
According to reports, Minnesota-based Hormel claims that Campbell is engaging in false advertising. Hormel asserts that Campbell’s Chunky Fully Loaded Beef Stew does not contain enough meat to constitute a stew in terms of the industry standard definitions.
In a suit filed with the federal court in Minneapolis, Hormel is claiming that while Campbell does put the word “soup” on the label, it is not prominent enough. Hormel, which markets ready-made stews under the Dinty More brand, is also claiming unfair competition,
Campbell has not commented on the suit.
