Eating less than a half-teaspoon of cinnamon per day can significantly reduce blood sugar levels in people with Type 2 diabetes, according to a study by the Agricultural Research Service in the United States.

Researchers randomly asked 60 volunteers to take various amounts of cinnamon from a placebo to six grams per day.

Ingesting as little as one gram per day (less than half a teaspoon) of cinnamon for 40 days resulted in an improvement of roughly 20% in blood sugar, cholesterol and triglyceride levels. No advantage was seen in taking more than that amount.

Significantly, the volunteers’ blood sugar levels started climbing when the cinnamon was stopped.
