Massachusetts-based retailer Stop & Shop Supermarkets said it had removed frozen ground beef patties produced by Topps following the recall.

The retailer, owned by Dutch retail giant Ahold, advised customers who had already bought any of the affected products to discard them or return them to any store for a full refund.

In total, Topps is recalling more than 330,000 pounds of frozen ground beef from stores across the US.

The recall followed a combined New York Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention investigation into an E. coli O157:H7 outbreak which was determined to have been caused by consumption of Topps ground beef products.
