The UK-based firm, the world’s largest confectioner, is proposing to shut its Avondale facility in Auckland and move some of the production to another site in the New Zealand city of Dunedin.

“If the consultation is successful, 140 permanent roles and 50 seasonal roles are to go,” a Cadbury spokesperson in London told just-food. Under Cadbury’s plans, the Avondale site will close in late 2009.

In June, Cadbury said it would axe 15% of its workforce as part of a global cost-cutting drive that it hopes will reshape the business.

Cadbury also plans to close 15% of its manufacturing facilities around the world over the next four years.
