VIETNAM: Guidelines to control beef and pork imports from Thailand and Cambodia

Amid fears that mad cow and mad pig disease are on their way to Vietnam, the ministry of trade (MOT) is working with the veterinary department under the ministry of agriculture and rural development, to issue guidelines to control beef and pork imports. Unconfirmed reports that mad pig disease has been discovered in neighbouring Thailand and Cambodia prompted the MOT to employ technical barriers to prevent disease transmission, explained the MOT. Deputy head of the import-export division, Nguyen Khanh Loan, added that no ban on imports from these areas has been implemented.
