The UK’s largest supermarket chain, Tesco, has said that its third-quarter group sales rose 17.5%, partly driven by its non-food range and international operations.

Total UK sales for the fourteen weeks to 15 November increased 14.6%, including 4.3% from T&S Stores.

Like-for-like sales rose 6.9%, driven by strong volume growth of 6.6%.

Tesco said its non-food range was going “from strength to strength”, with clothing sales up 34% in the quarter.

International sales rose 31% in the third quarter. All of Tesco’s overseas operations contributed to this growth despite some tough trading conditions, the company said, adding that it expects to have 198 hypermarkets operating overseas by the end of the year.
