Auchan has already handed back its 49% stake in the partnership it set up in 2000 to create the Acima chain of supermarkets and develop the Marjane fascia in Morocco.

The Lille-based multiple will honour all its current contracts, including sourcing agreements for the coming months.

“We will do whatever we have already agreed to do,” an Auchan spokesperson told just-food today (30 August). “There is no question of any disagreement. Some contracts will run well into 2008 and they will all be fulfilled.”

During 2006, the 22 Acima supermarkets and 13 Marjane hypermarkets posted pre-tax sales of EUR613m and employed 5,200 staff.
