Danone is to axe 78 posts at its Blédina brand baby food plant at Brive-la-Gaillarde, Corrèze.
“The cutbacks are necessary if productivity at the plant is to reach optimal levels and these will be implemented on the basis of voluntary redundancies over a three year period, beginning in 2010,” a spokesperson for Blédina told just-food today (18 November). “Other measures to improve productivity are also in the pipeline.”
The plant, which employs a total of 550 staff, benefited from a EUR20m (US$29.9m) investment package earlier this year, which focused on a new production line for the Blédichef ready meals range.
The new line will enter service at the start of next year, with the additional capacity catering for demand for Blédichef products from overseas markets.
