UK-based snack food group Walkers has created a key marketing role to push its “healthier” products.

The PepsiCo unit said today (27 July) that Sean Summers will take up a role as marketing director for healthier snacks next month.
Summers will be responsible for driving sales from Walkers’ existing “better-for-you” portfolio, as well as expanding the range.
Summers, who joined PepsiCo in Argentina in 1996, will report to Walkers vice-president of marketing Jon Goldstone.
Officials at Walkers were not available for comment as just-food went to press.

By GlobalDataHealthier snacks and confectionery are showing signs of taking off in the UK. Earlier this week, London-listed Zetar, which was formed two years ago and focuses on healthier products, posted a 55% jump in operating profit to GBP7.6m (US$15.7m) during the year to 30 April.
Turnover also soared, up 64% to GBP94.9m, as Zetar saw retailer demand for “healthier” snacks and confectionery grow.
