The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is extending the warning it issued last week regarding botulism contamination at a facility operated by Georgia-based food company Castleberry’s.

The agency said the move had stemmed in part from test results and information obtained during a joint FDA and US Department of Agriculture inspection of the Castleberry’s facility in Augusta, Georgia.
The product recall initially covered ten product lines of chili sauce with certain best-before dates but has now been extended to a comprehensive list of canned goods with all best-before dates.
In addition, Castleberry’s is recalling other products containing meat, which are regulated by the US Department of Agriculture. The USDA is also warning the public not to eat certain brands of Castleberry’s products containing meat.
The initial product recall and investigation was triggered after two children in Texas and an Indiana couple who ate the chili sauce products became seriously ill and had to be hospitalised.
