Lyle Vanclief, Canada’s Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister, and Javier Usabiaga Arroyo, the Mexican Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food, have formally signed a working plan on Agricultural Co-operation. They also agreed to the terms of reference for the Canada/Mexico Consultative Committee on Agriculture, which will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the plan.

Vanclief commented: “The relationship between our two countries has always been a strong one and I look forward to seeing continued progress in these important areas in the coming months. The ongoing exchange of information and expertise in agriculture programs and development initiatives is vital to both Canada and Mexico.”

Arroyo added: “Mexico and Canada are trade partners who share the goal of continuing to increase the development of the agricultural sector in order to improve the living conditions of our rural populations.

“This new agreement creates the foundation on which we can continue to work together toward this objective, using the strengths and advantages of each country.”
