Sales for the 48-week period were $178.826 billion, an increase of 15.8 percent over the $154.446 billion in the similar period in the prior year. SAM”S Club sales for the five-week period were $3.390 billion, up 2.3 percent over sales of $3.313 billion in the similar prior-year period. Club sales for the 48 weeks of $24.839 billion were up 7.2 percent over the $23.172 billion in the similar prior-year period. Comparable sales for the periods ending Dec. 29, 2000, were as follows:
