Morrisons said sales had slowed “slightly” since May, when it said first-quarter sales had risen by 4%.

In an update today ahead of its interim results, Morrisons said like-for-like sales for the 23 weeks to 15 July were up by 3%.

Chairman Sir Ken Morrison said the company is “satisfied” with its progress. “Sales volumes are lower than we would like, but the company’s new marketing and store programme will commence later this month,” he added.
