Organic food sales in Brazil are growing by some 50% per year, according to foodservice.com. The organic sector generates annual turnover worth R$400m, largely stimulated by the major multiples. Supermarket leader Carrefour, the local subsidiary of the French giant, Pao de Acucar (part-owned by France’s Groupe Casino) and their smaller rivals are largely driving the popularity of organic food.
