United President Tom Stenzel has been named to the Bush-Cheney Transition Advisory Committee for Agriculture, a group which will advise President-Elect Bush, Vice President-Elect Cheney, USDA Secretary-Designee Ann Veneman, and other officials on policy coordination and outreach activities during the early days of the new Administration. “It’s an honor for our association and our members to be selected as the fruit and vegetable industry’s representative to assist with the transition,” Stenzel said. “I’ll work hard to make sure that produce concerns are front and center as new USDA staff appointments are made and early policy positions are drafted and debated.” President-Elect Bush has appointed 15 advisory committees for different sectors of the Administration, which will be chaired by former Rep. Bill Paxon. The 30-member Agriculture Advisory Committee includes former USDA Secretaries Clayton Yeutter and John Block; former chairman of the House Agriculture Committee Kika de la Garza; and the heads of several major food and agriculture groups representing different commodities, grocery manufacturers and retail supermarkets.
